Department of Fisheries and TSFR meeting to update FIP trawl fishery in the Gulf of Thailand

On 22th March 2022, 10:30 AM at Department of Fisheries, there was a meeting between Department of Fisheries, chaired by Mr. Chalermchai Suwanrak, Director General and TSFR by Mr. Pornsil Patchrintanakul, the President of Thai Feed Mill Association, Mr.Amnuay Oerareemitr, the President of Thai Fishmeal Producers Association and representative from 8 associations. The meeting objectives is to update FIP progress on the improvement and development especially for Fishery Action Plan (FAP) of trawl fisheries in the Gulf of Thailand and discuss possibility to coordinate to request data/information from agencies in the Department of Fisheries in order to progress the project. From the meeting, the following agree will be proceed.

Meeting objectives to report progress on the improvement and development of trawl fisheries in the Gulf of Thailand and discuss ways to coordinate requests for information from agencies in the Department of Fisheries.


1) The Department of Fisheries Director General has assigned the relevant departments to coordinate and support TSFR for information to improve the Fishery Action Plan (FAP) based on the latest assessment results. With a resolution at the meeting, Director General of the Department of Fisheries agreed and assigned the departments within the Department of Fisheries to perform their duties coordinate and support information to develop the initial Fishery Action Plan (FAP). The two main division, the Marine Fisheries Research and Development Division and the Fisheries Commodity Standard System and Traceability Division will have a duty to in charge.


2) Department of Fisheries Director General has an approval for presenting the FIP trawl fishery in the Gulf of Thailand and report on progress at the meeting of the National Fisheries Policy Committee. This will be a good communication to the key stakeholders and will also bring the matter to a joint negotiating in the meeting between Thailand and the representative of the European Union (EU) to demonstrate processes that can be considered useful and relevant to audits Fishing without IUU.


3) Department of Fisheries Director General agreed that the Department of Fisheries will cooperated in public relations in the project to report on the progress of the project implementation to expand awareness channels for stakeholders.
