Department of Fisheries Cooperates with Customs to Enhance Thailand's IUU Fishing Solution

On Tuesday, 25th January, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Department of Fisheries, Inspector General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Acting for the Director-General of the Department of Fisheries and the Director-General of the Customs Department sign a memorandum of agreement on the control and inspection of imported, exported and imported aquatic products to enhance the implementation of IUU Fishing.

Therefore, there is a policy to focus on the utilization of limited aquatic resources for maximum sustainability. by setting up a system to manage aquatic animals throughout the production line to meet international standards and together to eliminate the problem of IUU Fishing in Thailand.

The signing the said memorandum It is an integration between the Department of Fisheries and the Customs Department in controlling and inspecting imported, exported and transited aquatic products in order to solve IUU fishing problems and comply with the Royal Fisheries Decree B.E. 2015 and its amendments. including the Customs Act B.E. 2017, It also prevents fishery products from illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing from entering the kingdom into the market and production process which is to build confidence in the international including partner countries through the traceability system (Traceability) of Thailand.


Actions in the event that the Department of Fisheries does not allow the import, export and transit of aquatic animals or aquatic products In the event that the Department of Fisheries does not permit the importation of aquatic animals or aquatic products due to reasons related to Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU) fishing) to the Department of Fisheries to inform the reason for not allowing the Customs Department and the person requesting permission to import, export or transit and in the case where the Customs Department detects aquatic animals or aquatic animal products that are imported, exported and transited without a license to import aquatic animals or aquatic animal products The Customs Department shall notify the Department of Fisheries for the Department of Fisheries and the Customs Department to perform their duties.

Actions on mediums Give the Customs Department the power to deal with merchandise related to Illegal Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU Fishing) in accordance with the Customs Act B.E. 2017 and adherence to the Royal Decree on Fisheries B.E. 2015 and its amendments. more by allowing the items to be distributed to the poor or underprivileged without charge or ordered to destroy the medium and inform the details of the operation to the Department of Fisheries.


Cooperation in solving other problems, the Customs Department and the Department of Fisheries in each area jointly inspect and arrest aquatic animals or aquatic animal products suspected of being obtained from the commission of an offense under the Royal Fisheries Act B.E. 2015 and its amendments or the Customs Act, B.E. 2017, with the Department of Fisheries having the main duty to control Inspection of aquatic products or aquatic products imported, exported and transited and prevented aquatic products or aquatic products from Illegal Unreported and Unregulated Fishing(IUU Fishing).


Director-General of the Customs Department said that the Customs Department is very pleased to join the Memorandum of Understanding to resolve illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUU Fishing) problems with the Department of Fisheries. which the government attaches importance to control Inspection of aquatic products, import, export and transit including solving the problem of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU Fishing). The Customs Department is ready to cooperate with the Department of Fisheries. in performing duties and stipulating various measures to enhance control import check export and bring through which aquatic products and aquatic products This is to prevent aquatic animals from fishing. unlawful enter the kingdom make international and partner countries Accepting Thailand's audit standards and contributing to the sustainability of the country's economy.
