The DMCR Went to the Area to Help Sea Turtles Caught in Fishing gear at Chanthaburi province


On December 17th, 2023, officials of the Eastern Gulf of Thailand Marine and Coastal Resources Research Center were informed about the discovery of a live sea turtle accidentally caught in a shrimp gillnet fishing gear near the estuary of the Welu River, Bang Chan Subdistrict, Khlung District, Chanthaburi Province.



Officers inspected it and found it to be a Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) measured attached to the shell, width 73 centimeters, length 81 centimeters, weight 54.20 kilograms, age approximately 20-25 years, no microchip number found physical fitness was at a good level (3/5 body condition score) 4 centimeter long wound was found on the left paddle area, estimated that this was caused by fishing gear, the sea turtle is still responding well and is strong veterinarians will carry out a thorough physical examination, treatment, and rehabilitation before releasing it back into the wild.
